Rudi Adlmayer has dedicated over two decades to the stewardship of Woollahra’s bushland, serving as the Council’s Bushcare Liaison Officer. His role encompasses the coordination of community volunteers and the management of bush regeneration efforts across several key reserves, including Cooper Park, Gap Park, Harbourview Park, and Trumper Park.
Under Adlmayer’s guidance, Woollahra’s Bushcare program has flourished, engaging local residents, schools, and corporate groups in the restoration of native habitats. The program focuses on removing invasive species, planting indigenous flora, and enhancing biodiversity. Notably, Adlmayer has overseen the regeneration of Cooper Park, a 15-hectare site that has transitioned from a heavily weed-infested area to a thriving example of urban bushland restoration. This transformation has been achieved through the application of various techniques, including thermal weeding and the use of bioherbicides, alongside traditional methods like hand weeding and revegetation.
Adlmayer's commitment extends beyond practical conservation work; he is also an advocate for community education and involvement. He regularly leads field trips and workshops, sharing his extensive knowledge of bush regeneration practices and fostering a deeper connection between the community and their local environment.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Adlmayer is passionate about native flora, particularly the Smooth-barked Apple (Angophora costata), a species he has actively planted throughout the region. His personal dedication to the environment is mirrored in his professional achievements, making him a respected figure in the field of bushland conservation.
