Tim Sinclair - NSW Health
Sydney Local Health District has farewelled Dr Tim Sinclair after nearly two decades of working at the heart of the District’s leadership team.
He’s been the District’s Executive Director of Operations for the past three years – otherwise known as the DO.
He holds a Doctorate of Business Administration, a Masters in Health Services Management and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management).
Dr Sinclair began his career in the District in 2004 after graduating (with distinction) from the University of Sydney.
He joined the Graduate Health Management Program which is designed to grow health service leaders for the future and to build a legacy of strong management across the District.
He has held numerous roles in the District including Associate Director of Clinical Operations (for the former Sydney South West Area Health Service), as Acting
Director of the District’s Performance and Business Units and General Manager of Balmain Hospital.
In 2013, he was the Acting General Manager of Concord Repatriation General Hospital, when he was named the recipient of the Anthea Kerr Award which recognises future public service leaders in New South Wales.
At the time, he was the youngest General Manager of a tertiary health facility in the state. It was the first time a NSW Health employee had received the distinguished award.
“I am really proud of the award. It gave me an additional determination to keep pushing toward the redevelopment of Concord Repatriation General Hospital. The redevelopment is one of the biggest achievements of my time as General Manager of the hospital and throughout my District role,” he said.
The District’s Chief Executive Dr Teresa Anderson said Dr Sinclair’s career showed the impact young people with great ideas, and the ability to build partnerships with others, can make – particularly in health care.
“Tim has been the General Manager of Balmain and Concord hospitals. He truly cares about the community he serves. He has driven projects that have made, and will continue to make, a difference to the lives of people in our community,” she said.
Dr Sinclair lists his “big wins” as the $341 million Stage One redevelopment of Concord Hospital which is set to open later this year, the NSW Government’s $750 million commitment to redevelop RPA, the establishment of the National Centre for Veterans’ Healthcare, the opening of RPA Virtual Hospital and the NSW Health COVID-19 Vaccination Program.
“Looking back to the height of the COVID-19 response, it has been extraordinary to be a member of this team. I’ve seen so many people rise to the challenges we faced.
“We demonstrated how quickly we could respond, innovate and provide great care for our community. We also worked more closely together as a team than we ever have before”, he said.
Dr Sinclair has accepted a role in the private health care sector and is looking forward to spending time with his young family.
“The incredibly satisfying part of a career in health care is lifelong learning. You’re literally learning every day, problem-solving and seeing something different.
“My family makes me slow down and reflect. When I’ve been through the journey of life, I want them to be proud of me. I hope I have the opportunity to role model a thing or two,” he said.
Dr Anderson described Dr Sinclair is an incredible professional, father and colleague who inspired others and helped to build services that the community is proud to call their own.
“I’d like to thank Tim and his family for all that he has given to his role, to NSW Health and to our team. He is a wonderful leader, administrator and mentor. We wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career,” she said.
